Toilet Rolls & the Kingdom of God

by Neal on January 6, 2010

I recently watched an older guy pick up a pack of toilet paper from the front of the local $2 store without paying and walk off to his car. It shocked me, and I stopped as I was leaving the chemist to watch, speechless. The next moment a couple with kids walked past and greeted the thief, the wife giving me the once over and a frown as she passed. Placing the unpaid-for toilet paper in his large four wheel drive, the group were soon engrossed in conversation and I walked off.

Moments before, I had been sitting in the car after arriving at the local shopping centre to run a couple of errands. I parked and turned the engine off and spent a moment praying and asking God to bless everyone I could see. I also asked how could I reach these people with the Gospel?

I parked and turned the engine off and spent a moment praying and asking God to bless everyone I could see.

As I was leaving the couple reappeared after being in the shops, the wife giving me that look again and pointing me out to her partner and yet another mate.

Now back home, I wonder if there was anything I should have done with the guy and the toilet rolls? While I am not sure, it did serve to fuel my thoughts about how the Kingdom is breaking out in Mooroolbark and surrounds. I have prayed repeatedly for Kingdom eyes and ears — that I may see where the Kingdom is at work — did I just see an example?
