A night for bad news…

Had quite a night…

At The Dining Room, I found out that one of the guys who has been coming on and off for the past couple of years threw himself in front of the train last week to end his life. Many of the community and folk tonight were still in shock and dealing with the loss of a friend and companion. I was told that this guy lost his battle with depression, so he committed suicide by train, leaving a couple of kids behind.

I will be going to this young man’s funeral to support the folk that come to The Dining Room as well as pay my respects on behalf of myself and The Dining Room community.

Later, I came home to hear that my wife’s Grandmother had finally passed away this evening. She had been struggling these past few days, steadily dying and losing a lot of weight. She was 92. I will miss her as she was quite a character and had quite an amazing and eventful life with Jen and my kids part of her life’s legacy. I had only known here for the past 11 years but loved to hear her tales of her childhood in the bush, as well as tales from Jen’s and the families past.

Go in peace Myrtle. You deserve the rest in God’s arms.
