Connecting with Urban Seed

Had a wonderful day today visiting with the crew at Urban Seed in Melbourne City. I arrived in time for lunch at Credo Cafe and had the privilege of sharing lunch with another first time visitor, a homeless guy called Miles. We had a beautiful hot soup full of veges and pasta. Delicious!

Later I met with Marcus Curnow, one of the Executive Team, to pick his brains about their work with the community and the homeless in the city. Marcus was very generous with his time, and took me on a tour of the facilities in Baptist Lane. We later shared a coffee on the verandah of the Collins Street Baptist Church Cafe, where we talked about Urban Seed etc. I had the opportunity to share with Marcus the efforts of The Dining Room and Vive Cafe, as well as the plans for Sanga’s and the church plant I am calling Wild Geese.

We then walked to where the educational arm of Urban Seed is located — The Den, where I caught up with  Tim Jeffries and had the pleasure of meeting Samara Pitt, another one of the part-time staff that help educate schools and businesses about homelessness and poverty. Samara has written  a fantastic resource called “Homelessness — Searching for Home in Australia.” Contact Urban Seed for copies.

I came away from my day with the team very inspired by both their faith and enthusiasm but also their heart for the homeless and marginalised in Melbourne. I take with me encouragement and vision. Thanks Marcus and team!
